Drake goes platinum in Canada for Thank Me Later

Today, we got word that former Degrassi cast member, Drake is certified platinum for his debut album Thank Me Later in just under a week. This past weekend he recieved the award, which is given to an artist who sells 100,000+ records. The totals are still being counted, but what a rise to stardom, eh? Really amazing what he has done. Hip Hop Canada, who reported the story, compares Drake with another former Canadian hip hop artist who debuted with such high numbers as Drake’s. In 1989, Maestro debuted Symphony in Effect which almost went double platinum with just over 190,000 copies sold, which still remains one of the best hip hop albums that Canada has seen, but will Drake top that? Time will tell.
